Coastal Community Foundation currently has several competitive grant programs. Applications are available for programs and services for the benefit the community of Solana Beach, mental health programs, and music grants. The Foundation currently does not accept unsolicited grant proposals for programs in other focus areas. For Frequently Asked Questions click here.


Solana Beach Fund  

The Solana Beach Fund supports a Thriving Community that builds strong nonprofits, supports neighborhoods and families and ensures vibrant culture. Grant funds may be requested for new activities, to expand current programs, to make them more effective or to improve organizational efficiency in delivering services. Programs must be in Solana Beach. Grants will not be considered for fund raising events, endowment campaigns, travel, religious or political advocacy or for programs and services outside of Solana Beach. Preference will be given to organizations with budgets less than $2 million. The grant range is $2,000 – $5,000.

Mental Health Fund

  • Grants are awarded to nonprofit organizations that provide prevention or early intervention mental health direct services to youth OR mental health counseling for youth (ages 21 and under).
  • Programs or services must serve the North Coastal communities of Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas, Carlsbad or Oceanside.
  • Grant range is $2,500 – $6,000.  Preference will be given to organizations with annual budgets less than $5 million.

Betty Scalice Foundation (for Music)  

Grants are available for nonprofit and school-based music programs serving North Coastal San Diego County.  The grant range is $1,000-5,000.  Eligible programs include: free community concerts, youth musical performances, low cost classroom musical instruments, classroom programs that use music, choral and musical performances at schools; equipment that supports the teaching of choral music, music therapy and related programs.   Grant applications are accepted January through October.  Awards will be made periodically throughout the year.   On the grant application make sure that you indicate when the program will be implemented.

Hand to Hand 

Hand to Hand makes an impact in the lives of women and girls in San Diego County by directing resources to programs that empower change and self-sufficiency. Hand to Hand fulfills its mission by:

  • funding education and job training for women
  • programs to help women re-enter the work force
  • mentoring programs for women and girls
  • microloan programs through non-profit organizations.

Funding addresses programs which further the mission of Hand to Hand. Nonprofits in San Diego County are eligible for funding. The grant guidelines and application can be found in the Files section on the right of this page .  Applications are due in July.


Donor Advised Funds

Individuals and families that have established a Donor Advised Fund at the Foundation determine the focus of grants from their funds. Grant distributions are made to a wide variety of charitable programs from donor advised funds.

All new grant programs will be announced on the website and through the media.


Suzuki Music Scholarship

Scholarships are available from the Barbara Schneiderman Fund for Piano Enrichment for San Diego County students to attend a Suzuki camp or convention. Awards are open to students studying Suzuki music (piano only). Please conatct the Foundation at or call (760) 942-9245 for more information or an application.
