Philanthropy Club Foundation

In January 2010 Encinitas residents Steve Knight and David Baker, local real estate brokers, established the Philanthropy Club Foundation. The fund was created to take the lessons of philanthropy into the classroom and help children learn about "the art of giving."

The Philanthropy Club gets involved in the process of giving. On April 30 Steve and David presented the program to the third and fourth grade classes at Olivenhain Pioneer Elmentary School. Steve and David used examples of both famous and local philanthropists to teach the basics of donating tme, treasure and talent. Each classroom was given $400 to donate to one or more nonprofit organizations in the community. The students' homework was to discuss their charitable options with their parents and return to class with a decision as to which charities they would support and why.

Grants were distributed to four local charities: Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation, Community Resource Center, Helen Woodward Animal Center and North Coast Rep. To learn more about the Philanthropy Club, contact the Foundation at info@coastalfoundation.org
