Featured below are the competitive grant programs of Coastal Community Foundation. Additionally, grants are made throughout the year from the Foundation’s many donor advised funds.

Betty Scalice Foundation

The Scalice Fund underwrote Encinitas Art Nights sponsored by Encinitas Friends of the Arts. The Betty Scalice Foundation supports non-profit and school-based music programs serving North Coastal San Diego County. Grants range from $1,000-5,000. 2019 and 2020 grant recipients include:

Become a Partner in Philanthropy At Coastal Community Foundation

Join us as a Partner in Philanthropy. Your gift allows the Foundation to respond to community needs through grantmaking programs, provide technical assistance to nonprofits, and support our work in building community philanthropy. Partners are recognized on our website and annual publication.

EdVentures Fund

EdVentures is a grant program that supports hands-on, creative educational experiences for students in North San Diego County schools with an emphasis on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).

In response to school closures due to COVID-19, grants in 2020 were directed to support for distance learning. The following organized received grants:

CTE Engineering at Canyon Crest Academy.

During the 2019-2020 academic year, grants were made in support of Career and Technical Education (CTE) and Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) at Carlsbad Unified and San Dieguito Union High School Districts. High School and Middle School teachers in the districts submitted proposals for hands-on, creative classroom projects. Over $45,000 was awarded to 38 classrooms.

Support For Health & Human Services

Mental Health Fund

Funding is provided for prevention or early intervention mental health services or mental health counseling for youth ages 21 and under in North Coastal San Diego County. Grants range from $2,500-6,000. Recent grant recipients from the past three years include:

Fund for Supportive Housing & Homeless Recovery

Grants address housing needs in North San Diego County for homelessness, recovery from homelessness and continuum of care for transitional or chronic homelessness. Recent grantees include:
