Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors 

Coastal Community Foundation (CCF) has a number of scholarships available for graduating high school seniors.  Eligibility for each scholarship is outlined below.  Application Deadline: Monday, April 1, 2024.

Selection Criteria

No members of the families of the Scholarship Committee, or employees of the Foundation, shall be eligible for any scholarship.   Scholarship awards typically range from $500 – $3,000. The Foundation will not distribute funds if no suitable candidates are found in a given period of time. All scholarship awards will be granted directly to the college or university by December 2024.

Bill Berrier Scholarship Fund

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who plan to prepare for a professional career in the field of education (teacher, counselor).
  2. Graduating seniors who are attending one of the San Dieguito Union High School District schools are eligible to apply.
  3. Students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  4. Financial need will be considered.
  5. This scholarship is eligible for renewal for up to 3 years. Requires satisfactory completion of full-time course work, maintaining a minimum of 2.75 grade point average (4.0 scale) and continued pursuit of a career in the field of education.
  6. Applications should include one letter of recommendation. Letters must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org

Joe W. Chavez Educational Fund

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who will be pursuing a career in the fields of medicine or government.
  2. Students from Carlsbad, Oceanside, and San Dieguito High School Districts are eligible to apply. One to two scholarships will be made per district. The average scholarship is $1,000-$1,500.
  3. Students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average. Please submit a copy of transcripts to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org (Unofficial copies are accepted.)
  4. The scholarship is not need based. Awards will be made to students whose grades and personal activities demonstrate an ability to achieve their goals.
  5. Applications should include one letter of recommendation and unofficial transcripts. Supplemental documents must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org

Joe DeCamp Memorial STEM Scholarship

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to college-bound graduating high school seniors.
  2. Applicant must be a direct admit to a Flagship University School’s College of Engineering or admit to a school predominantly focused on graduating STEM majors.
  3. Graduating seniors who reside in Encinitas, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Marcos and Vista are eligible to apply.
  4. Applicant must meet the minimum requirement for admission to the California State University system.
  5. Preference will be given to students who are active with Boy Scout Troop #750.
  6. This scholarship is merit based. Financial need is not considered.

  8. Letter of recommendation may come from a scout leader in addition to the options stated above and emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org

Eric Hall Scholarship Fund

  1. Students from Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Dieguito, San Marcos and Vista High School Districts are eligible for this scholarship.
  2. Scholarships will be awarded to students pursuing a degree in the areas of architecture; civil or structural engineering; construction management or those interested in urban & city planning or public administration.
  3. Please submit a copy of transcripts to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org (Unofficial copies are accepted.)
  4. One letter of recommendation must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org
  5. Applicants will be judged on the following:
    1. Financial need
    2. Experience in Community Service
    3. Potential to succeed
    4. Scholastic achievement, minimum 3.0 grade point average

Linda Hall Scholarship

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who plan to prepare for a professional career in the field of education (teacher, counselor).
  2. Graduating seniors who are attending one of the Escondido Union High School District schools are eligible to apply.
  3. Students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  4. Financial need will be considered.
  5. This scholarship is eligible for renewal for up to 3 years. Requires satisfactory completion of full-time course work, maintaining a minimum of 2.75 grade point average (4.0 scale) and continued pursuit of a career in the field of education.
  6. Applications should include one letter of recommendation (from student’s high school teacher, counselor, coach, school administrator, employer, or staff where student volunteers or interns, could include student’s church). Letters must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org
  7. Submit a copy of transcripts to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org (Unofficial copies are accepted.)


Eric Scott Langdon and Diana Monzeglio Memorial Scholarship Fund for Artists

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who will be studying the arts, music or dance at a college or university.
  2. Students from San Dieguito Academy and Canyon Crest Academy only are eligible for this scholarship.
  3. Preference will be given to students who excel in fine arts, dance, or music.
  4. Preference will be given to students who need financial support to attend college.
  5. Students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  6. Applications should include one letter of recommendation. Letters must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org

Jackie Harrigan Haase Memorial Scholarship Fund

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to students who are pursuing a career in nursing, counseling, psychology or special education.
  2. Students from the San Dieguito Union High School District are eligible.
  3. Students must be attending a two or four year college or university.
  4. Students must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average.
  5. Preference will be given to students who have been in special education.
  6. Applications should include one letter of recommendation. Letters must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org

Steve Pratt Refuse to Lose Scholarship

  1. Scholarships will be awarded to graduating seniors who participate in a varsity sport and who plan to attend a 4-year college or university.
  2. Graduating seniors who attend Scripps Ranch High School are eligible to apply.
  3. Applicants must have a minimum 3.5 unweighted grade point average.
  4. Financial need is not required, but may be considered.
  5. Applications should include one letter of recommendation. Letters must be emailed to: scholarships@coastalfoundation.org

Barbara Schneiderman Memorial Scholarship for Piano Enrichment: Suzuki Music Scholarship

Scholarships are available for San Diego County students (elementary, middle and high school) to attend the San Diego Suzuki Institute camp for piano. See camp information: https://suzukiassociation.org/events/loc/san-diego-suzuki-institute/

Higher Education Scholarships


JWG Scholarship for Biology & Molecular Biology

This scholarship is available to a college student who is majoring in biology or molecular biology at UCSD and is pursuing a career as a scientist or researcher. Applicants must be sophomores or juniors at the time of application. Scholarship amount is $2,500. See guidelines at upper right of this page.

Leigh O. Cortez Educational Leadership Scholarship

This scholarship is available for a teacher currently teaching in the Carlsbad Unified School District or Encinitas Union who wishes to pursue graduate work in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field. Scholarship amount is $2,000. Scholarship is based on merit and financial need. Candidate with community service experience preferred. See guidelines at upper right of this page.
